CONNECT-NM Internal Deliverable ID4.5.1: Documentation of the NM-KB Architecture and Default Functionality

This report provides high-level documentation for the CONNECT-NM Nuclear Materials Knowledge Organisation System (NM-KOS) architecture and its default functionality. The NM-KOS architecture is based on a two-layer approach, splitting the responsibilities into Data Management (DM) and Knowledge Management (KM). DM systems, underpinned by SQL/NoSQL databases, are aimed to hold domain-specific data, and can be independently implemented for various research initiatives within the Partnership. The KM system will be based on a graph database, tasked with storing abstract knowledge on domain entities, metadata, and the mappings between the Knowledge Base (KB) entities and the actual Data Management System (DMS) data. In addition to presenting the architecture, this report outlines the design choices regarding available semantic and software solutions and provide a justification for their selection
