Challenges Encountered by Intermediate English Teachers in the Implementation of PHIL-IRI in Relation to Learners Reading Performance

Abstract: This study sought to assess the challenges encountered by Intermediate English Teachers in the implementation of PHIL-IRI in relation to learners reading performance. There were 38 teacher respondents included in this study under the District of Manjuyod 1. The total number of respondents were 38 teachers who will assess the level of challenges encountered by Intermediate English Teachers in the implementation of PHIL-IRI in relation to learners reading performance. The baseline data was collected from 38 public elementary school teachers handling intermediate level. The variables included were age, number of years as English teacher, highest educational attainment. The study sought to establish the degree of challenges encountered by Intermediate English in the implementation of PHIL-IRI in relation to learners reading performance on these phases: before implementation, during implementation, after implementation. A self-made questionnaire was validated an employed to measure the responses of the respondents. The findings of the study indicated these phases of concern. The degree of challenges encountered by Intermediate English Teachers in the implementation of PHIL IRI in relation to learner’s reading performance showed that before implementation respondents were able to land the “Moderate Degree” and during the implementation and after implementation both the respondents were able to land the “Low Degree”. Keywords: Challenges encountered, Intermediate English Teachers, implementation of PHIL-IRI, reading performance
