An Appraisal Study of the Jal Jeevan Mission with respect to Improved Rural Water Supply in India

Abstract The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), launched by the Government of India in August 2019, aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water to all rural households in India by 2024. This ambitious initiative focuses on improving water supply systems, enhancing access, and improving sustainability in rural areas. The Jal Jeevan Mission has had a transformative impact on rural water supply in India, with notable progress in increasing access to safe drinking water, improving infrastructure, and fostering community participation. It has brought significant improvements in public health and quality of life, particularly in rural areas that were previously underserved. The present study mainly focuses on the assessment of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in India. It will also aim to evaluate the performance of this scheme in terms of its objectives. The study is based on the facts and figures extracted from the government reports and other authentic sources. The Jal Jeevan Mission has made significant progresses towards improving rural water supply in India, contributing considerably to public health and women's empowerment. However, continued efforts are required to address remaining challenges and ensure equitable access to clean water across all rural areas. This overall appraisal will be conducted through the present study
