Abstract

The article studies a relatively new category of "student engagement", which, according to the authors, is a multifactorial phenomenon that indicates the effectiveness of educational institutions. On the other hand, the development of student engagement can contribute to motivational prerequisites for the professional self-determination of students and subsequent successful employment in the labor market. In the article, the authors present an approach to understanding the category of "student engagement" considering the existing research results of Russian and foreign researchers. It is necessary to consider student engagement through the parameters of the academic component and cognitive-behavioral characteristics. Creation of a student's interest in professional development within the training profile requires determination of potentially significant characteristics and factors for a specific area of activity (particularly, in tourism). The results of the studying student engagement while professional training in tourism are presented in the article.
