Cooperativas de Crédito vs. Bancos de Varejo - Uma Análise Comparativa Detalhada
This article provides a detailed comparative analysis between credit unions and retail banks in the Brazilian context. It addresses the definition, history, governance structure, products and services, advantages and disadvantages, socioeconomic impact, statistical data, and regulatory aspects of both institutions, based on academic and authoritative sources. The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview that helps in understanding the particularities of each model and their implications for users and the financial system. The research adopts a qualitative approach, based on a bibliographic and documentary review. It is concluded that, although retail banks offer broad capillarity and a vast technological portfolio, credit unions stand out for potentially more competitive rates, personalized service, democratic governance, and a strong commitment to local development, presenting themselves as a relevant and expanding alternative in the national financial market.
