Unlocking Versatility in Power Converter Prototyping with TyphoonHIL
When developing Power Converter Systems (PCS), migrating from simulation to prototype is a key challenge. Simulation software often relies on simplified models that fail to capture real-world complexities, leading to discrepancies in control algorithm performance when implemented on physical hardware. To address this, integrating Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) simulations in early design stages and transitioning to Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) within the same platform ensures a reliable and efficient approach for designing and testing PCS. This white paper provides a functional overview of the IREC's application of this workflow within the H2020 Hybris Project EU. In this project, a HIL404 unit by TyphoonHIL serves as a real-time simulator in early stages of developement ans as a controller for the PCS in later prototype implementation. The feasibility of this streamlined approach is proved by means of simulation and experimental results.
