Comparing Extraction and Direct Amplification Methods for Enhanced Touch DNA Profiling
This study evaluates traditional DNA extraction versus direct amplification for Touch DNA profiling on different surface sizes and materials. Using RFU strength and allele detection as indicators, results show that direct amplification with MicroFLOQ™ Direct swabs and SceneSafe Fast™ minitape performs better on small surfaces (p < 0.05), while extraction yields superior results on larger ones (p < 0.001). The findings highlight the complementary roles of both techniques and emphasize selecting the optimal method based on surface characteristics to enhance the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of forensic DNA analysis.
