Review on the effect of pruning and fertilizer on the yield and quality of Tea (Camellia Sinensis L.O`Kuntez)

This comprehensive review delves into the impact of pruning techniques and fertilizer application on both the yield and quality of tea (Camellia sinensis L. O’ Kuntz). The primary aim of this seminar paper is to evaluate the influence of these practices on tea production, providing invaluable insights for end-users seeking to enhance tea yield and quality. The findings from the review highlight significant outcomes. Top pruning emerges as a practice that notably amplifies the number of plucking points, fresh and dry leaf weights. Conversely, down pruning contributes to increased plant mortality rates and subsequent declines in both yield and quality. Regarding fertilizers, the review identifies a positive correlation between inorganic fertilizers and tea yield. Furthermore, these fertilizers exhibit associations with key chemical constituents of tea. Among organic fertilizer types, cow-dung stands out for its demonstrable impact on enhancing various growth parameters of tea plants. Overall, this review emphasizes the pivotal role of agronomic practices in influencing tea growth, development, and the ultimate yield and quality of the harvested tea leaves. However, it is essential to note that this review primarily focuses on the effects of select agronomic practices fertilizer and pruning on tea production. Future investigations should encompass a broader spectrum, exploring the effects of additional factors such as mulching, soil types, seasonal variations, and cultivars to comprehensively address the nuances of tea management and its impact on yield and quality.
