Comparative Analysis of Welding Techniques

Welding is a critical process in modern manufacturing and construction, with various techniques employed based on material, application, and structural requirements. This research paper presents a comprehensive study of major welding types—including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). A detailed comparison is made based on strength, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for large-scale structural projects. To contextualize the theoretical analysis, a case study of welding applications in the fabrication of steel components for a highway bridge construction project is presented. The study evaluates the performance of different welding methods under field conditions, quality control challenges, and the impact on structural integrity and project timelines. The results underline the importance of method selection and the influence of environmental and economic factors on welding performance. Recommendations are provided for welding practices in large-scale infrastructure development.
