Cost estimation and construction in afgoi.

Abstract In order to reduce cost-related risks and increase the overall allocation of resources, accurate cost estimation is very essential when managing construction projects. This paper studies the cost estimations in construction undertakings within the Afgoi District in Somalia and aims to find which particular factors influence cost estimation. Some of these would include the project scope, existing competition, prevailing wages, materials supply, and the processes of estimation. A combination of techniques was adopted in which information was sought via questionnaires and interviews from project managers, engineers, and cost estimators. Shortfalls in technical and financial data, along with constraints such as lack of time and overestimated levels of competency, lead to adverse estimation of expenditure. In addition to these internally driven elements, other factors such as changing prices of raw materials, government policies, and unanticipated climatic conditions also affect the accuracy of cost estimation in the project. The study shows that cost estimates can be improved by spending more effort on planning or putting in place advanced data collection methods or even sophisticated cost estimation models. Some suggestions are better data gathering methods, improved training, enhanced project planning, crafted in-depth detail for frameworks, and partnered with standard structures for estimating prices to increase accuracy and effectiveness. The research has shown that better training, more effective data collection, and advanced cost estimation models will improve the estimation of costs. Investing in workforce training and development and enhancing the planning phase of construction projects along with the development of universal and specific estimation frameworks are recommended in order to improve the efficiency and accuracy of construction projects. This will be helpful to the construction firms, policymakers, and project managers in Somalia towards better cost estimation and higher project success probabilities.
