Consequences of Wastewater Treatment Chemicals on Aquatic Ecosystems: A Critical Review
Abstract With an emphasis on behavioral and physiological impacts, this paper investigates how chemicals used in wastewater treatment affect aquatic life. Disrupted nutrition, reproduction, migration, and social interactions are examples of behavioral alterations. Stunted growth, developmental problems, immune system impairment, and hormone imbalances are examples of physiological effects. Advanced oxidation techniques, bioremediation, artificial wetlands, and membrane bioreactors are some of the mitigation techniques that were covered. The significance of striking a balance between aquatic ecosystem preservation and efficient wastewater treatment is emphasized in the research. To enhance wastewater management and protect aquatic life, future research should focus on creating novel treatment technologies, comprehending long-term effects, and investigating novel materials and methods. This thorough analysis emphasizes the necessity of sustainable methods to shield aquatic ecosystems from harmful wastewater treatment chemicals
