Globalization and Higher Education in Cameroon: The Impact of International Cooperation

This study investigates the influence of globalization on higher education in Cameroon, with a specific focus on the role of international cooperation. As globalization intensifies, it reshapes national education systems, compelling countries like Cameroon to engage with global educational trends, practices, and partnerships. The research explores how international collaborations—primarily with countries such as China, France, Germany, and the United States—have contributed to institutional reform, curriculum development, capacity building, and cross-border academic exchanges. Drawing on both qualitative and quantitative data from selected Cameroonian universities, this study analyzes the extent to which international cooperation has enhanced academic standards, research output, and institutional governance. It also discusses the challenges associated with dependency, cultural imposition, and sustainability of international partnerships. The findings highlight that while international cooperation has catalyzed significant progress in Cameroon’s higher education sector, strategic national planning and contextual adaptation are essential to maximize its long-term benefits.
