RESEARCH ON NEUROPROTECTIVE DRUGS FOR NEURODEGENERATIVE DISORDERS
Neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS, are characterized by progressive neuronal loss, leading to cognitive and motor impairments. While significant advancements have improved the understanding of their pathophysiology, current treatments remain largely symptomatic, highlighting the urgent need for neuroprotective strategies. This research focuses on developing neuroprotective drugs targeting oxidative stress, protein misfolding, neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Emerging therapies such as gene therapy, biologics, and nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems are reshaping the field. However, challenges like blood-brain barrier penetration, disease heterogeneity, and the lack of reliable biomarkers hinder progress. Advances in precision medicine and artificial intelligence offer new opportunities to address these barriers. Neuroprotective pharmacology holds promise for transforming the treatment landscape, with early intervention and innovative drug delivery systems being key to achieving effective disease-modifying treatments.
