Electrochemical CO2 reduction in modern energy as a method of production of propanol and other alternative fuels
The article describes the basic aspects of the electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction process and thecatalysts and electrolytes used in it. It is followed by a discussion of the application of this technology, discussingpossible conversion products. The process of electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide, given the current progressin its development, appears to be a promising way to manage this gas, especially given current trends relatedto the decarbonization of many industries and the search for new methods of disposing of CO2. Since the inventionof the technology, advances in reactor design and the discovery of new catalysts have made the process - given theright parameters - economically viable for simple products such as carbon monoxide and formic acid. However, further research work is needed before the process can find industrial application in the production of particularlydesirable hydrocarbons such as propanol and ethylene.
