A Comprehensive review on crisper technology and its impact on major genes in crop improvements
CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary genome-editing platform, has fundamentally altered the landscape of crop breeding by allowing meticulous alterations to plant genomes. This advanced technology empowers the creation of crops with markedly increased yields, heightened stress resilience, enriched nutritional profiles, and fortified resistance to diseases. By significantly expediting traditional breeding methodologies, CRISPR-Cas9 has facilitated the development of crops such as drought-tolerant maize, wheat with inherent disease resistance, and rice enhanced with critical nutrients. Moreover, CRISPR-Cas9 offers promising solutions to global food scarcity by enabling the biofortification of crops with essential nutrients, such as iron-enriched wheat and folate-enhanced tomatoes. Nevertheless, the widespread implementation of this potent tool is not without its challenges.
