Input-Output Analysis: Understanding the Interconnectedness of the Economy
Input-output analysis can be defined as a systematic organizational modeling technique which offers a closer look at the linkages among industries in an economy. It concerns itself with the flow of goods and services across sectors and provides valuable insights about economic structures, supply chains, and the possible effects of economic shocks. The idea that industries are interconnected is advanced in the core concept of input-out or the affair analysis. One sector’s output becomes other sector’s input for its utilization and makes industries interconnected. This inter-relatedness can be represented in a network framework called an input-output network, which portrays the transactions between industries or sectors. According to the input-output model, economies can be categorized into three major sectors: agriculture, industry and service. For each sector to make its output, it relies on inputs provided by other sectors. For instance, agriculture may input fertilizers from the industrial sector and transport services from the service sector.
