Social Media Addiction by University Students: An Analysis of Demographic Variables
Nowadays, students are using social media more and more and it has gained importance in the communication age. Its additional features are discussed by the social scientists and researchers worldwide. So, the main of the study was to dive into how university students are using social media and see how different demographic factors like gender, age, and class level play a role in that usage. The researchers went with a cross-sectional research design, gathering a group of 360 students through random sampling. To collect the data, the researchers used questionnaires, which helped us get a clearer picture. When the data were analyzed, using methods like frequency counts, percentages, mean scores, independent sample t-tests, and one-way analysis of variance, the researchers were looking for answers to the research questions and to hit those objectives which were set out. The findings turned out that the students were spending quite a bit of their time on social media platforms. Moreover, male and female students were pretty much on the same page when it comes to their general use of social media. However, it has been noticed that students pursuing their PhDs seemed to be the least hooked on social media for general purposes. This research may be super helpful for parents, teachers, counselors, and anyone else in the education field. It gives them some insights to create better strategies for guiding students on how to use social media in a more balanced way.
