EVALUATION OF THE COMBINATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN AN OFFSHORE PLATFORM, USING TOPSIS MULTICRITERIA METHOD

Combining different renewable energy sources increases electricity production and system availability. In this paper, the risks arising from interconnection of subsystems with different technologies in a floating multi-use platform are assessed through the application of the TOPSIS multicriteria method. The different renewable energy subsystems are evaluated in different operational conditions either stand-alone or in combination. The application aims to achieve the quantification of benefits of the combination of a wind turbine, photovoltaic panels, wave energy converters, and energy storage subsystems on board an offshore floating platform using the proposed method as an assessment tool. Finally, the most suitable sites for installing the overall structure are evaluated through the Analytic Hierarchy Process.
