International Translation Studies from 1978 to 2022: A Bibliometric Analysis and Its Implications

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of articles in 14 international translation journals indexed in SSCI or A&HCI from 1978 to 2022. It reveals diverse insights such as frequently explored topics, their evolution over five periods, highly-cited articles, productive and influential authors, and productive countries or regions. This study identifies important topics, such as translation technology, post-editing, machine translation, subtitling and audiovisual translation. It also demonstrates that emerging technologies and the cultural turn impact the field. Descriptive translation studies still influence current research. Additionally, the research reveals that interdisciplinary studies are gaining attention in translation studies. The study offers a comprehensive view but has some subjectivity in data analysis. Future research might improve validity with methods like surveys and interviews. It provides implications for the future direction of translation studies.
