Impact of COVID on Food Behaviour and Consumption in India
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented changes to food behavior and consumption patterns in India. This study examines how the crisis influenced dietary habits, purchasing preferences, and overall food consumption trends across diverse demographic groups. Using a secondary data analysis, the research identifies key shifts, such as increased reliance on home-cooked meals, heightened awareness of nutrition and immunity-boosting foods, and a significant rise in digital food delivery services. It also highlights challenges, such as disruptions in food supply chains and the economic constraints faced by households, leading to altered consumption priorities. The findings reveal how cultural, economic, and regional factors shaped consumer responses, offering insights into the evolving food landscape. By analyzing these trends, the paper aims to contribute to policy discussions and strategic planning for building resilient food systems in the post-pandemic era. This study underscores the long-term implications of COVID-19 on India’s food ecosystem.
