EFFECT OF CORRUPTION ON GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE. THE CASE OF THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE

Abstract Especially in public institutions, corruption has a significant impact on worker performance and overall organizational effectiveness. This study looks at how corruption affects worker performance in Hargeisa, Somaliland, with a particular emphasis on the effects of corrupt behaviors including favoritism, bribery, and nepotism on motivation, productivity, and workplace integrity. Data was gathered through surveys and interviews with management, staff, and stakeholders in a few public institutions using a mixed-methods approach. According to the research, corruption considerably depresses worker morale, decreases productivity, and fosters an unjust workplace. The study also emphasizes how corruption worsens institutional performance by causing the hiring of unqualified workers, resource misallocation, and less accountability. In order to fight corruption, the report emphasizes the necessity of strict anti-corruption laws, more open hiring procedures, and more robust institutional frameworks. Increasing awareness campaigns on ethical workplace practices, fortifying performance rating systems, and implementing merit-based hiring are among the recommendations. For governments, corporate executives, and anti-corruption organizations striving to enhance governance and worker performance in Somaliland, these findings offer insightful information.
