AQP4 gene single nucleotide polymorphisms rs2075575, rs162009 and rs335929 in Italian Parkinson's disease population

The association between three AQP4 gene SNPs (rs2075575, rs162009, rs335929) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) in an Italian cohort was investigated. Results show no significant correlation between these SNPs and PD risk. However, rs162009 was linked to reduced risk of REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) in PD patients. Additionally, rs2075575 was associated with hallucinations in PD. These findings highlight the potential role of AQP4 in sleep disorders and PD symptoms, warranting further research.
