Event Schema as a Semantic Component of Events
Relationship between the main arguments of a Predicator Verb is explained variously by summoning one or more of a set of syntactic and semantic properties related to the Verb such as adicity, transitivity, agentivity and event schema. This paper prioritizes event schema, as conceptualized in Cognitive linguistics, for configuring the relationship between the main arguments and their thematic roles, known as Participant roles, as a more appropriate interpretation of Interlingual Asymmetry (IA), such as those occurring in the grammatical case of the Verb’s main arguments, between English and Tamil. Further, it projects the event schema as a non-temporal functional semantic component of events.
