EOSC Track - D5.4 The EOS Observatory Branding Handbook

In April 2024, a pivotal decision was made to rename the EOSC Observatory to the EOSC Open Science Observatory, marking a significant step in its evolution as the premier platform for Open Science monitoring in Europe. This rebranding is not merely a cosmetic change but a strategic move to align the Observatory’s identity with its mission to provide critical policy intelligence and support high-level decision-making. The EOSC Open Science Observatory is envisioned as the go-to platform for anyone interested in learning about and engaging with Open Science. It will play a pivotal role in providing implementors of Open Science and EOSC with critical policy intelligence, becoming integral to policy-related and high-level decision-making processes. The mission of the EOSC Open Science Observatory is to deliver reliable, comprehensive, and timely data and insights that empower stakeholders across Europe to make informed decisions and drive the transformation towards Open Science. By doing so, the Observatory will support the implementation and evolution of Open Science practices, ensuring that these are aligned with the needs and expectations of the European research community. As outlined in the EOSC Open Science Observatory Branding Handbook, the idea is to create a recognizable and enduring brand that resonates with stakeholders across Europe, positioning the Observatory as the go-to resource for advancing Open Science practices. The rebranding process will unfold gradually, starting with the completion of this handbook and a comprehensive communication and dissemination plan, followed by the full integration of the new brand across all platforms by the end of 2026. Alongside this, a sustainability model will be developed to ensure the Observatory’s continued relevance and impact in the years to come. By the time the rebranding process concludes, the EOSC Open Science Observatory will not only have a robust and consistent brand identity but also a clear roadmap for sustaining its role as a central pillar of the European Open Science ecosystem. Note: The EOSC Open Science Observatory Logo and Brand Guidelines are under the review of EOSC SB members. This is a preliminary version, that will be updated and will be upload to EOSC Track Zenodo Community as a stand alone document.
