Diplogyniidae Tragardh 1941

DIPLOGYNIIDAE Trägårdh, 1941 Diplogyniidae species have been found on hosts belonging to Blattodea, Coleoptera (Curculionidae, Histeridae, Passalidae, Scarabaeidae, Tenebrionidae), Dermaptera, Hymenoptera, Isoptera, Myriapoda and Squamata (Kazemi et al. 2008). Of the 40 Diplogyniidae genera, only 38 species belonging to 19 genera were found, on 26 species of Passalidae belonging to 11 genera; and 7 diplogyniid species were found on unidentified Passalidae (Pearse et al. 1936; Trägårdh 1950; Womersley 1958a; Hyatt 1964; Elsen 1975, 1981; Hunter 1993a, 1993b; WiŚniewski and Hirschmann 1993a; Karg 1997; Villegas-Guzmán et al. 2008; Seeman 2012; Barrios-Torres and Villegas-Guzmán 2015; Sun et al. 2024). As many as 17 species were collected from only one host, while four species of hosts yielded only Pseudodiplogyniopsis garba (Pangella, 1906). Each of 24 host species had only one species of Diplogyniidae. The hosts with the most species of Diplogyniidae are Pentalobus barbatus (Fabricius, 1801) (9) and P. palini (Percheron, 1844) (4). Only Diplogyniidae were found on three species of Passalidae: Bilongicauda microseta Elsen, 1981 on Didimus aloysiisabaudiae (Pangella, 1906), Schizodiplogynium capillatum Trägårdh, 1950 on Episphenus moorei Kaup, 1871, and Burgeonium megabasis Elsen, 1981 on Pentalobus simia Kuwert, 1898 (Tables 2–6 and 8).
