Kent Şairi Turgut Uyar
Born on August 4, 1927 in Ankara, Turgut Uyar is considered one of the pioneers of the İkinci Yeni. Uyar, who worked as a civil servant in the military for years, retired in 1967 and moved to Ankara. Uyar, who had a 38-year poetry career and collected all of his poems in 1984 in a book of poems titled Büyük Saat, died on August 22, 1985. Turgut Uyar's poetry conception has undergone a great change from his first poem to his last. There are two distinct phases in his poetry. With his 3rd book, Dünyanın En Güzel Arabistanı, the poet entered into an understanding of poetry that has common aspects with the poetry of the İkinci Yeni. Turgut Uyar described the city and the loneliness of the individual in the city in his poems. Uyar is also a poet who carries the troubles of the countryside to the city. How Uyar, who is called an urban poet, deals with the city and the urbanite in his poems is a remarkable subject. This study will examine how Turgut Uyar deals with the city and the urban in his poems. Concepts such as urban psychology, the adaptation problem of those coming from the countryside, being away from nature, occupational groups, unemployment, and economic depression are the main starting points of the study. Based on Uyar's poems, his perspective on the city and urbanity will be revealed.
