Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of certain aspects of the Great Embassy of 1697-1698. Noting the purpose, nature of the trip, its course and, undoubtedly, positive results, the author tried to highlight another area of the trip, which mainly concerns the private life of the embassy members, their homes, food, how they spent their leisure time, etc. Particular attention is paid to the financial component of the embassy, especially the staff, financial support (sources of financing are indicated), as well as what purchases individual members of the embassy made, their scale and significance. These data, previously correlated with the realities of that historical period, will help us to form a definite idea of the tastes, habits and character traits of individual members of the embassy. Through the prism of the daily life of the embassy participants during their stay abroad, the author, based on sources and literature, made some observations concerning the interaction and relationship between two cultures, Russian and Western European.
