Clinical Evaluation of Varnya Gana Kashay in Vyanga (Melasma)
Abstract: Vyanga is one of the Kshudrarogas and is distinguished by the presence of the Niruj and Shyavavarna mandalas on the face, particularly the forehead, nose, and cheeks. The clinical features correlate with melasma, which is an acquired chronic hyperpigmentation disorder, Vyanga or melasma is a skin condition in which a hyperpigmented patch appears on face. Melasma is often seen in women of childbearing age and is typically triggered by hormonal changes, sun exposure, hair colouring & genetic predisposition. Although we say medically this is not a serious condition but this is more than enough to shatter one’s confidence. That is the reason we see most of the population need a treatment. The treatment in modern medicines has many side effects. The recurrence after the treatment is very common. The treatment for melasma in Ayurveda is devoid of side effects, it is very effective and it promises to stop the recurrence. The drugs which constitute the Varnya Ganakashay bestow the normal Varna (colour) by virtue of their qualities and actions. Keywords: Vyanga, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, Kashay
