Effect of cleaning and sterilization cycles on the lifetime of the medical device
Abstract: Contamination, e.g. residues of cleaning agents, can have a cytotoxic effect and thus have a negative influence on biocompatibility. In the field of implantology, in particular, this can affect patient safety and, in the worst case, lead to revisions as a result of inflammatory reactions. Test intervals could be extended and overall maintenance costs reduced. A model description of the influences of initial condition, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization on the service life and operational behavior of surgical instruments is developed, which allows concrete predictions to be made about their safety and at the same time economically optimal service life.
