Crowdsourcing Challenges in Toponymy
Abstract. The use of crowdsourcing for collecting and enriching toponymic data has become popular because it can lead to the development of more comprehensive gazetteers enriched with cultural perspectives. Nevertheless, this approach poses several challenges: the accuracy of information, limited participation from marginalized communities, ethical participation concerns, and scalability obstacles. This article addresses these challenges and strategies for improvement alongside successful cases of crowdsourcing in toponymic projects.
