A Study on Reverse Logistics and Return Management with Special Reference to Metro Cash And Carry

Abstract The strategic processing of product returns and the related procedures constitute return management, a crucial component of reverse logistics. Understanding the context and importance of this issue requires knowledge of the conceptual underpinnings of studies on reverse logistics and return management. A growing customer expectation for hassle-free returns, environmental sustainability, and the necessity for enterprises to effectively manage their supply chains have all contributed to the increased significance of reverse logistics and return management in recent years. The main ideas and supporting elements of this field will be examined in this research. The purposes of return, remanufacturing, recycling, or disposal, reverse logistics refers to the process of organising, coordinating, and managing the movement of items from the end destination back to the producer or another specified place. The forward flow of goods from manufacturers to consumers is the main emphasis of classical logistics, which is represented by this. Waste management, product returns, recalls, recycling, refurbishing, and other processes are all included in the intricate system known as reverse logistics. It is crucial in cutting down on waste, encouraging circular economies, and lessening the environmental impact of enterprises. In order to maximise revenue from returned goods, reduce costs associated with handling returns, uphold customer happiness, and comply with legal obligations, firms must practise effective return management. In addition to determining how to handle returned goods—such as by refurbishing, recycling, or disposal, it also entails evaluating their condition and making sure all legal and environmental regulations are followed. The main aim of the study is to evaluate the existing reverse logistics and return management practices, identify the key drivers behind product returns, analyse the impact of product returns on Metro Cash and Carry's operations, financial performance, and customer satisfaction levels and examine the challenges and bottlenecks faced by Metro Cash and Carry in handling product returns and reverse logistics, including issues related to inventory management, transportation, and quality control.
