THE EVOLUTION OF THE CONCEPT OF PUBLIC SAFETY: FROM PHYSICAL PROTECTION TO GLOBAL SECURITY
Public safety is essential for the stability and well-being of any society, involving the protection of citizens from threats to social order and physical integrity. Over time, the concept of public safety has evolved from physical defense against criminals to a broader vision, encompassing economic, social, health, and political aspects. Institutions responsible for public safety, such as the police, gendarmerie, judiciary, and emergency services, play a crucial role in maintaining order and protecting citizens. Moreover, public safety addresses various issues, from physical and economic safety to cybersecurity and social security. Modern challenges such as terrorism, cybercrime, and climate change complicate the maintenance of safety. Active citizen involvement, through civic education and cooperation with authorities, is essential for the long-term success of public safety efforts.
