Fearlessness, Respect, and Skill: The Samurai Code and the Bhagavad Gita
The Samurai Code (Bushido) and the Bhagavad Gita have deep and shared lessons about living without fear, respecting life, and detachment. Bushido is the warrior’s way, which teaches us to do everything we can to perform our duty, exercising wide-ranging sensibilities on what to do during the uncertainty of slicing through the unknown. At the same time, the Bhagavad Gita invokes Dharma (duty), Abhaya (fearlessness) and Nishkama Karma (detachment from the results of action). Both philosophies go beyond results, encouraging individuals to act with integrity and respect for opponents. These timeless words of wisdom, drawn from the principles of spiritual alignment, apply as much to daily life as they do to the battlefield, drawing forward courage, discipline, and self-mastery in the face of the challenges of the modern age.
