Bombus (Thoracobombus) fervidus

Bombus (Thoracobombus) fervidus (Fabricius, 1798) [Lectotype: ZMUC; ♀ America; Bombus (Fervidobombus) californicus Smith, 1854 (synonym) type: NHMUK; ☿ California, USA] The individuals of this species inhabiting Baja California exhibit the coloration pattern of Bombus californicus. However, due to the lack of evidence supporting its status as a distinct species, we follow the treatment of Williams et al. (2014). Bombus fervidus is categorized as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List (IUCN 2022). This species has been reported in the Coastal Sage Matorral, Chaparral, and Baja California Mountains with vouchered specimens in LACM, UCRC, SEMC (GBIF 2023). During this project, it has been recorded exclusively in the Coastal Sage Matorral in April and May 2021; and May 2022. Voucher specimens are in MABC (1 ♀, 1 ♂), and ECOAB (1 ♀). See fig. 85.
