Smart Transport Infrastructures Classification
The adoption of Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) represents a significant paradigm shift in mobility. To navigate this transition effectively, the establishment of standardized procedures for evaluating infrastructure capabilities supporting CCAM is crucial. One of these procedures is the definition of classification schemes to evaluate the maturity, readiness, and support infrastructures can provide for CCAM. These classifications serve a multifaceted purpose, including informing end-users, assisting operators, and aiding authorities and policymakers in planning the evolution of CCAM. Furthermore, as smart infrastructures become more prevalent, these standardized approaches play a pivotal role in infrastructure management, by guiding the planning of future infrastructure improvements and investments to support higher levels of automation and more advanced use cases. Benefiting from early works of infrastructure classifications, mainlyfocused on the road and automated driving, the H2020 EU funded project TANGENT proposes a Smart Infrastructure Classification Index (SICI) that extends to multimodal transport networks.
