Substitute verbs and verbs-intensifiers in Middle Volga area as regional phenomena
The paper deals with verbs that are characterized by incomplete, "flawed" semantics, and that are registered in the speech of the Ulyanovsk region residents. One of the groups of such verbs includes derivatives from the base of a demonstrative pronoun. These verbs substitute the corresponding full-fledged words. Their meaning depends on the context they are used in. Substitute verbs often function as euphemisms for obscene vocabulary and are actively used by residents of cities in Siberia, the Urals and the Volga region. Another group of verbs with weakened semantics includes lexemes, the main meaning of which is 'to do something intensively, energetically, diligently’. A number of such verbs have been registered in the Middle Volga region dialects, among them are valit, zapolyskivat, katat, etc. Verbs-intensifiers also depend on the context, i.e. they can be full-fledged, but also can be used to indicate the intensity of the action of any adjacent verb. The verbs-intensifiers manifest themselves most actively in Russian dialects on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia and in adjacent regions.
