Creating actionable recommendations and guidelines for Diamond OA (18 November 2024)

Presentation slides from a DIAMAS project event to help create actionable recommendations for Diamond OA. Event took place on 18.11.24. Below is the description of the session. The discussion on open science and the future of scholarly communication is increasingly focused on community-driven models that are equitable by nature and design. Political support for and public sector engagement in such models have both grown in recent years. One such model is 'diamond' open access (Diamond OA), a scholarly communication model in which research outputs are openly available, without charging fees to either authors or readers. In this model, scholarly communities lead and own all content-related elements. During October, the DIAMAS project has been collecting feedback from stakeholders on a set of actionable recommendations for Diamond OA for institutional leaders, funders, sponsors and donors, and policy makers. To start a conversation on the implementation of the resulting recommendations, an online event “Creating actionable policy recommendations and guidelines for Diamond OA” will be organised on 18 November 2024 at 13:00-15:00 CET. Participants will be able to provide additional feedback to the recommendations, but also take part in a shared discussion on their value as a comprehensive framework for implementation. Where are the challenges, and where do we see opportunities? The event will provide participants with an in-depth overview of DIAMAS’ draft policy recommendations and guidelines aimed at strengthening Diamond OA journals and platforms across institutional, national and European levels. This first part will be followed by a more interactive feedback-gathering session, during which participants will be asked to share their comments and engage in discussions regarding the proposed set of recommendations. This event is open to: Institutional leaders and Diamond OA practitioners working in universities, other RPOs and learned societies. European research funders, sponsors, and donors that provide financial or in-kind support to Diamond OA outputs. National and European policymakers.
