Children Who Witness Domestic Violence: An Interview-Based Study with Adult Survivors.
Domestic violence happens to many people around the world to both men and women and it is often not reported, but when it is reported normally the police’s attention goes towards the victims and towards the perpetrators. This is very important because victims need justice and support in order to help them go through the traumatic events that they experienced. However, children who witnessed domestic violence and lived in a violent household also need support, this is because even if they are just children, they still understand what is going on and that someone that they love is being hurt. This qualitative research provides evidence by conducting semi-structure interviews that children who witness domestic violence are impacted. Signs of the negative affects can happen at a young age around their teen years, but this does not mean that they are still not impacted as adults especially if they have had no support throughout their lives. The researcher interviewed four participants where they spoke about their experience in living in a violent household and how they were impacted. Even though the main focus on this research is show how much children are impacted, the researcher also wanted to stress that if there was more support towards the children than there is right now it could help the children have a better life.
