Characters in Film: A novel interpretation of Propp's Model
Abstract: The study examines the morphological model of narrative given by Vladimir Propp in the film Enchanted (2007). The study tries to put forth the idea that the characters in the film are not just characters following some functions or performing an action but are an important part of the plot. The analysis treats the film as a text and draws on the elements presented in the plot of the film. The characters in the film conform to the roles that are identified by Propp. The characters embody different qualities that contribute to the development of the plot. This leads to the interdependence of the characters and the plot that results in the development of both. Keywords: Propp, Narrative, Morphological, Functions, Dramatist.
