Subiasiana Kontschán, 2024, gen. nov.
Subiasiana gen. nov. Type species Subiasiana indica sp. nov. Monotypic. Genus based on adult female and male material representing one newly described species. Diagnosis Idiosoma wide, rounded, with a wide and U-shaped indentation on anterior margin. Dorsal shield fused with marginal shield on anterior area. Idiosomal margins bear numerous very long setae. Marginal shield reduced caudally. Majority of dorsal setae smooth and needle-like, some posterior setae on dorsal idiosoma marginally serrate. Dorsal shield covered by oval pits, surface of marginal shield with undulate sutures. Genital shield of female linguliform, male genital shield oval with eugenital setae. Anterior margin of genital shield of female without prolongations and female genital shield without sculptural pattern. Prestigmatid part of peritreme long and straight, poststigmatid part absent. Base of tritosternum narrow and vase-like, its laciniae subdivided into three smooth branches. Internal malae on gnathosoma long and apically pilose, corniculi horn-like, setae h1 needle-like, h2 and h4 smooth, h3 serrate. Ventral setae (v2) on palp trochanter serrate and situated a robust and spine-like prolongation. Chelicerae without internal sclerotized nodes. Tarsi of leg I without ambulacrum and claws; majority of leg setae smooth, but numerous pilose and serrate setae also visible. Etymology The new genus name “ Subiasiana ” is dedicated in honour of Dr Luis Subias (1948–2024), an excellent Oribatida specialist, who passed away on 5 May 2024. Gender Feminine. Remarks Based on the following characters (setae h1 long, chelicerae without an internal sclerotized node and without a mushroom- or flower-shaped sensory organ on the fixed digit, and corniculi smooth apically), I can place the new genus in the large, catch-all family Uropodidae; however all taxa within this family merit revision. The new genus based on long setae on idiosomal margins is similar to the Neotropical Clausiadinychus Sellnick, 1930 (family Clausiadinychiidae KontschÁn, Ermilov & Fridrich, 2023) and Afrotropical Spinosissuropoda Hirschmann, 1979 (Uropodidae Kramer, 1881) genera, but differs in many characters, which are summarized in Table 1.
