THE ROLE OF FEEDBACK IN DEVELOPING DISCOURSE COMPETENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS
Discourse competence, the ability to use language effectively in social contexts, is a vital skill for high school learners. It includes not only grammatical accuracy and vocabulary knowledge but also the ability to create coherent and cohesive texts, use appropriate language registers, and participate in meaningful interactions. Feedback serves as a key element in fostering this competence by offering insights into learners’ strengths and weaknesses, guiding their learning, and motivating improvement. This paper examines the role of feedback, its various types, and effective feedback practices in enhancing discourse competence in high school learners.
