ASPAZIA OŢEL PETRESCU – OM DE LITERE ȘI MODEL DE MĂRTURISITOR ÎN TEMNIŢELE COMUNISTE

Summary. Our study wishes to emphasize a side from the life and activity of the literate Aspazia Oțel Petrescu, namely the confession of the Orthodox ancestral faith in the communist prison.The communist prison was a calling to assume sufferance and sacrifice, for it literally “gave birth tomartyrs”. Prayer and poetry were the two coordinates of the martyrs and confessors and gave themthe strength to hold on. Mrs. Aspazia Petrescu was gifted with the gift of writing, and prayer, onemay say undoubtedly that she discovered it in the cold prison of the communist regime. Aspazia theconfessor is a model of sacrifice, of its assumption, a model of humble love according to the words ofour Savior Jesus Christ: “For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselvesalone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die,we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be theLord of both the dead and the living” (Romans 14:7-9).Key words: literate, model, confessor, prison, communism.
