Iconological Analysis of the Tomb of Tutankhamun
This article explores the iconography and symbolic meanings within the tomb of Tutankhamun, analyzing how the artwork, inscriptions, and burial arrangements reflect New Kingdom funerary beliefs and the young pharaoh’s efforts to restore traditional religious practices after the Amarna period. The study examines key elements such as depictions of deities, the spatial arrangement of the tomb, and the use of colors and symbols, drawing connections to Egyptian cosmology and the afterlife journey as portrayed in texts like the Amduat and the Book of the Dead. By contextualizing the iconography within Tutankhamun’s political and historical era, the article offers insights into the syncretic interplay between Amarna influences and the renewed emphasis on traditional Egyptian motifs. This analysis reveals how the tomb served not only as a royal burial site but also as a complex statement on divine kingship, cosmic order, and resurrection within ancient Egyptian religious thought.
