HARMONY BETWEEN SPOUSES AND AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Marriage and family related issues are becoming increasingly important in recent years. One of the issues thought to affect society by disrupting marital adjustment is domestic violence. The issue of domestic violence has brought the issue of domestic violence awareness to the agenda. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between harmony between spouses and domestic violence awareness in married individuals. The survey method was used in the study. The study group consisted of 305 volunteers from non-governmental organizations operating in Çorlu district. Data were collected via face-to-face interviews. A Questionnaire, Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS) and Domestic Violence Awareness Scale (DVAS) were used. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and regression analysis techniques were used to statistically analyse. Marital adjustment and domestic violence awareness levels showed significant differences according to demographic characteristics. Marital adjustment is higher in older and educated individuals. Domestic violence awareness is higher among young people, newlyweds, employees, and those with high income and high education levels. There was a negative relationship between marital adjustment and awareness of domestic violence. While awareness of domestic violence is rising, marital adjustment is decreasing. Awareness of domestic violence predicts marital adjustment. It is recommended to conduct similar studies on the subject in order to generalize the results.
