Lithic Stories of Invisibility — The Hand's Remembrance of Troubled Matter
How do landscapes shift as carriers of trauma and cyclical time? How do we embody temporal ruptures through the agency of traces embedded within matter? Lithic Stories of Invisibility consists of peripatetic field notes exploring the intricate relationship between touch, matter, and surface tension that lies underneath. Morphologies of stones, lost traces and contested histories are examined through three anecdotes related to the artist’s research in Istanbul (2016–17), Dubai (2016) and Cornwall (2022). Each site incorporates a narrative on transformation, resistance and invisibility. Thus, the contribution reveals how materiality, memory and identity are intertwined with the role of the ‘hand as the creator,’ tracing the legacy of labor across time and space.
