Automated Racial Classification for the Identification of Skin Color or Race in a Real-World Political Context at the City Council of Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Automated Racial Classification (ARC) is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to developing computational models that automatically identify and analyse the ethnicity of individuals from images. Given its complexity, ARC relies heavilyon factors related to the phenotypic traits of racial identity, as well as the social and cultural associations tied to different groups. By employing advanced facial image processing techniques, key features are extracted to classify individuals into ethnic categories such as Black, Brown, or White, as defined by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics for Brazilian society. This study proposes the application of a cutting-edge ARC technique, using a robust model capable of identifying phenotypic characteristics in images of former members of the City Council of Belford Roxo, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
