The Quantititative Estinmation of Phenolics & Flavonoids from Ipomoea palmata From Family Convolvulaceae

Abstract In India, family Convolvulaceae is represented by 20 genera and 158 species occurring chiefly in the southern and western India. Over 60 species of Ipomoea are reported in India distributed and occurs especially in damp places. These species are used in different parts of the world for the treatment of several diseases, such as, diabetes, hypertension, dysentery, constipation, fatigue, arthritis, kidney ailments and inflammations. The most common biologically active constituents from plants of genus Ipomoea are ergoline alkaloids, indolizidine alkaloids, nortropane alkaloids, phenolics compounds, coumarins, norisoprenoids, diterpene, isocoumarin and benzenoids, flavonoids and antocianosides, glycolipids, lignan and triterpenes. Ipomoea palmata (carica) belongs Convolvulaceae family. It is a climbing herb and is found abundantly in tropical and subtropical region. It has many common name and is also knows as railroad creeper. The genus Ipomoea has 400 species all over the world from Ipomoea palmata forsks or Ipomoea cairica L. grow abundantly in India. It is used in treatment of various diseases . Humans use Ipomoea for their content of medical and psychoactive compounds, mainly alkaloid & phenolic compounds. The present study deals with estimation of phenols & flavonoids from .I palmata
