D3.4 LIGHTCAP Integrative deliverable - Implications

In this report, we take the learnings of all the work performed under LIGHTCAP and translate these into implications and recommendations for design and research. As was shared in the integrative reports on mechanisms and methods, quite some work in the LIGHTCAP project is still ongoing, which necessitates caution when drawing firm conclusions. Still we aim to summarize the most important findings and expectations regarding the research questions that drove the LIGHTCAP project in this report: what have we learned or do we expect to learn in the near future. The project primarily targeted questions around non-image forming effects of light on Cognition, Attention, and Perception (CAP). But our investigations also covered themes beyond CAP, in particular, they encompassed multiple studies related to health and sleep, as well as those on safety. After presenting our key findings, we reflect on how these insights can help us contemplate better light environments, how we can support designers to realize better light environments, and which grand research challenges still lie ahead in the field of lighting research.
