The Role of Teachers in Using ChatGPT as a Feedback Provider
The rapid development of artificial intelligence in recent decades has brought positive changes in the world of education, including in the process of teaching writing. One of the technological innovations that has received increasing attention is Chatbot, which is now starting to be widely applied in the teaching process. One of the Chatbots that has been used in the teaching process is ChatGPT. This study aims to determine teachers' role in using ChatGPT as a feedback provider. This study used qualitative descriptive methodology. This study also used purposive sampling with eight participants, consisting of two English teachers and seven students in the XI grade majoring in visual communication design at SMKN 1 Polewali. Instruments in this study used observation, interview, and documentation. The data validity checking technique used triangulation. Data analysis techniques are carried out in several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, and data conclusion. The findings revealed that there was an improvement in the quality of students' writing through the results of the first and the second assignments, especially in terms of grammar, vocabulary, and coherence. While ChatGPT is highly advanced, it remains merely a tool that complements rather than replaces the essential role of a teacher in education. This is because teachers possess the ability to comprehensively understand students' emotional needs and learning contexts, an aspect that AI cannot provide. This study cannot be used as a general conclusion due to the limitations of the research subject, research method, research instrument, and research duration. Therefore, the researcher suggests that future researchers should conduct research in different areas.
