Generation of a GPX Route to Boomslang Cave Entrance Using OpenStreetMap Data
This paper presents the design and implementation of a Python-based project aimed at gener-ating a GPX file for a walking route to the Boomslang Cave Entrance using OpenStreetMap(OSM) data. The system calculates the shortest walking path between specified coordinates, captures all intermediate points to ensure accuracy, and exports the route in GPX formatcompatible with various GPS devices and mapping applications. The project leverages librariessuch as osmnx, gpxpy, and shapely to facilitate route calculation and GPX file generation. This work demonstrates the practical application of geospatial data processing and highlightsthe potential for customization and scalability in route generation projects. Additionally, thepaper delves into the underlying linear algebra and graph theory principles that underpinthe route calculation algorithms, providing a comprehensive mathematical foundation for thesystem
